The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) announced that the organization’s cancer information service, ONS Online (http://www.ons.org), is now available to the public. The launch to the public coincides with the completion of improvements to the service that simplify access to cancer treatment and nursing information. The Oncology Nursing Society initiated the public-access project in response to requests from non-member users.

“Expanding ONS Online and providing the service to the general public will help the Oncology Nursing Society achieve its goal of informing the public about what constitutes quality cancer care,” said Pearl Moore, RN, MN, FAAN, Executive Director of the Oncology Nursing Society.

Expanded Features

New features highlight cancer genetics, fatigue, and excerpts from books focusing on various cancer topics. A section devoted to clinical practice issues has been expanded to provide practical information on cancer prevention and detection, rehabilitation and survivorship, end of life issues, and international cancer nursing.

ONS Online continues to provide information about the organization, together with daily healthcare news and weekly abstracts of oncology news. Other features include interactive educational materials, legislative summaries, oncology-related articles from both scholarly and consumer publications, meetings listings, directories of Oncology Nursing Society services, and a catalog of Oncology Nursing Society publications and products.

Enhanced Member Services

Users may also use ONS Online to join the Oncology Nursing Society, pay member dues, register for conferences, purchase products, and communicate via e-mail with Oncology Nursing Society leadership and the national office.

Certain areas of ONS Online will remain accessible to ONS members only and include the newly upgraded discussion forums and the full-text versions of Oncology Nursing Forum and the Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing.

ONS Online’s address is http://www.ons.org. For additional information, contact the Oncology Nursing Society, 125 Enterprise Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15275-1214, or call 412-859-6100 (fax: 412-859-6165). Contact the Oncology Nursing Society via e-mail at customer.service@ons.org.
